I used to do this when I lived in a rather... "limited"* space in DC. Short on both art and square footage, I left but one chair on the floor for myself and hung the other two I owned on the walls to moonlight as decorations until friends stopped by.
*Apartment hunting in DC back then required an actual newspaper, and one quickly learned to read between the lines. "Darling" meant small; ditto "sweet". "Unique" meant awkward. "Period charm" meant 20 year old appliances and cramped, dark closets.
