Local Volunteer Opportunity

The Food Bank Garden at the Children's Home was started more than 10 years ago by Jim Holmes, and it is completely run by volunteers. The produce goes to the Second Harvest Food Bank of NW NC, our local food bank. It provides fresh produce to groups who provide food for the hungry in our community, including soup kitchens, food pantries, Kid's Cafes and community centers.

Volunteers are needed to help weed, pick vegetables, mow grass, etc, beginning immediately. Volunteers can come as few or many times as they wish.

Work at the garden takes place every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 PM - 7PM. Additionally this Saturday, June 5, there will be maintenance and final planting from 9 - 11 AM.

Directions to Garden: The garden is located on the grounds of The Children's Home, 1001 Reynolda Road. After you turn into 1001 Reynolda Road, turn left at first little intersection. Stay on the road (past the soccer fields) to the gravel road and follow it to the barn. At the barn bear right, then left. Continue down the gravel road. Garden is on your left.
