Let it Snow

From the City of Winston-Salem's Department of Emergency Management comes a thrilling opportunity for local weather buffs:

Check it OUT!

The National Weather Service will present a Severe Thunderstorm and Winter Weather Spotter training workshop. The following topics will be covered:

  • Thunderstorm development and severity
  • Recognition of storm/cloud elements
  • Anticipating storm motion, intensity, and severity based on cloud structure
  • Typical winter weather patterns resulting in snow and ice storms
  • Local challenges of forecasting snow, ice and impacts
  • Review past winter weather events in Central North Carolina
(You see that last one? I'm tempted to go just to demand an answer as to why we never seem to get any good snow, yet EVERY pen and ink drawing of Christmas in Old Salem features blankets of white on top of the buildings and horses laboring to draw sleighs through thick drifts of it.)
