The kids and I have snaked our way through Harris Teeter and have finally come to the bread kiosk in the deli. We're happy to see that the usual baskets of bread slices and spreads are available at one end for sampling. But today, there's a previously unseen addition - bay leaves are placed like sentries between the offerings.
When the bread lady comes over to ask if I need anything, I point and say, "Bay leaves?" She very seriously nods and informs me that bay leaves keep flies away.
